7 June|Asian Connection|Amsterdam, Netherland

Bezetting:
Michael Simon – trompet, flugelhorn
Claudio Jr De Rosa – saxofoons
Fan-Qi Wu – pipa
David Gutierrez Franco – toetsen
Jonathan Ho – bas
Greg Smith – drums

6 June|Sonic Shades #3: the Sound of Taiwanese Pipa|Rotterdam, Netherland

In 2022, Duo Bottasso crossed paths with Fan-Qi and the enchanting sound of her pipa during a musical residency at Centro Incontri Umani in Ascona, Switzerland. Since that meeting, Fan-Qi has been on a mission to become an honorary sister of Duo Bottasso and join their musical journey. After weaving through a labyrinth of international challenges and parental negotiations, the long-awaited moment has arrived in Batavierhuis, the fearless hub of creativity of Rotterdam. With the addition of Norwegian drummer Michael Lee Sørenmo, their musical family is now complete.

Wooli is a dynamic musical duo featuring Taiwanese Pipa player Fan-Qi Wu and Norwegian drummer Michael Lee Sørenmo. Hailing from diverse musical backgrounds—Fan-Qi in traditional music and Michael in jazz and improvisation—they blend traditional melodies with inventive improvisation and jazz structures.

Duo Bottasso, aka the curious brothers musicians Simone and Nicolò, explored diverse art forms and music styles over their 20-year career. Their contemporary approach to traditional music blends original compositions, improvisation, and electronic elements. Infusing their alpine roots into innovative works, they craft a utopian folk music of the 21st century with sweet melodies and daring experimentation.

Line up:

Fan-Qi Wu: pipa, compositions
Michael Lee Sørenmo: drums
Nicolò Bottasso: violin, barytone violin, trumpet
Simone Bottasso: organetto

Musikere:

Michael Lee Sørenmo – Trommer og komposisjoner

Fan-Qi Wu – Pipa

Alexandros Koutsogiannis – Saksofoner

Mischa Grind – Perkusjoner

8 May|Hajodo|Oslo, Norway

Facing the competition of online audiovisual content, what lies in the future for the century-old forms of music performance? Presenting music, conveying sounds—what other possibilities exist? If a musical concert were akin to an exhibit in a museum, you wouldn’t need fast food or rush to be there by 7:30pm; if you could enter at any time, contemplatively experiencing and observing without instruction.
If a single music piece could yield different presentations/experiences based on your travel locations, what you hear and see might diverge?
Multiple videos, numerous sound “points,” the misalignment of auditory and visual elements, the interplay of time and space, along with the data accumulated from the audience’s participation in this “journey," have given rise to many unknowns. This is an improvisational journey (Ad hoc voyages), much like a guided tour video which depicts, “You can decide where to go or how long to stay. At every hour, you might witness some live performances… The screen to your right displays your current state in real time, while the one at the left rear indicates the present time—or maybe, “not” the present time. Hence, here what you see may not be what you’re seeing. Only sound remains the most honest."

27 August|IMPRA Jazz Festival|Stockholm , Sweden

Mykorhiza is a collaboration with IMPRA’s jazz club in Stockholm, Lupino Live and are thus the ones selected as the Open Call act.

Mykorhiza consists of the Swedish pianist August Björn, the Spanish singer Alicia Lázar Arteaga and the Taiwanese pipe player Fan-Qi Wu. They come from the singular combination of three different musical traditions.

A társulás általában kölcsönös előnyökkel jár (szimbiózis): a gazdanövény és a szimbionta közötti kényes egyensúly mindkét tag számára fokozott táplálkozási támogatást eredményez.”
