About

Fan-Qi Wu is an award-winning Pipa player from Taiwan.

Her works pushes the boundaries of tradition through free improvisation, avant-garde, and experimental elements. With a distinctive approach, she reimagines the pipa’s sonic possibilities, exploring the intersections of sound, culture, and identity. In late 2024, she released her debut album, Memories Flow Like a River, on the Austrian label redp music.

Her unique sound has taken her to festivals and stages across Asia, the Americas, and Europe. She has been invited to perform at major improvisation, jazz, world music and experimental music festivals and residencies, including Bingsjöstämman (Sweden), Babel Sound Festival (Hungary), HERE:2025 International Performing Arts Festival(Sweden), Aarhus Jazz Festival (Denmark), Building Bridges (Switzerland), Vestafor Festival (Norway), Romantic Route 3 Art Festival (Taiwan), OneBeat (USA) , Arena:Klassik (Norway), Red Light Jazz Festival (Netherlands), and (s)Nodi Festival (Italy).

Besides her own project, she is also a member of Wooli Duo, Mykorhiza, and PIPA-ensemble.

以琵琶為創作核心,吳凡棋擅長將自由即興、前衛與實驗元素融入演奏中,重新詮釋傳統,並拓展琵琶聲響的可能性。她的創作聚焦於文化與身份認同的交錯關係,遊走於傳統與當代之間,探索聲音如何在轉化中生成新的意義。

畢業於國立臺灣師範大學音樂系,主修琵琶。2021年以全額獎學金赴瑞典哥德堡大學攻讀即興演奏碩士(Högskolan för Scen och Musik, MFA in Music with specialization in Improvisation Performance)。於瑞典求學期間,吳凡棋受到北歐爵士與自由即興場景的影響,逐步建立以琵琶為聲音媒介的創作語彙。她的首張專輯《Memories Flow Like a River》於2024年底由奧地利獨立音樂廠牌 Redp Music 發行。

吳凡棋對琵琶的探索也讓她的演出足跡遍佈亞洲、美洲以及歐洲,成為許多知名即興音樂、爵士音樂、實驗音樂節的常客,包括荷蘭 Red Light Jazz Festival (2024)、義大利 (s)Nodi Festival (2024)、挪威 Vestafor Festival (2025) 及 丹麥 Aarhus Jazz Festival (2025) 等。

她也榮獲許多獎學金,包括青年百億海外圓夢基金計畫(2025)、Axel Adler 獎學金 (2021-2023)、Carl Larsson – stipendium för konstnärlig (2022)、教育部留學獎學金 (2022)、Ethno Mobility 獎學金 (2022) 以及行天宮長期特殊才能資優培育生(2018-2023)。

目前為Wooli 二重奏、Mykorhiza三重奏、琵琶雅集Pipa Ensemble 團員。
