Wooli 無理
Wooli /無理 is an avant-garde folk duo formed by Taiwanese pipa player Fan-Qi Wu and Norwegian drummer Michael Lee Sørenmo. Since their debut in Oslo in April 2024, the duo has performed across Europe at festivals such as Aarhus Jazz Festival, Vestafor Festival, Babel Sound Festival, and (s)Nodi Festival.
Their first album is currently in development and is scheduled for release in 2026.

Mykorhiza is a trio that consists of Swedish pianist August Björn, Spanish vocalist Alicia Lázaro Arteaga, and Taiwanese pipa player Fan-Qi Wu.
They draw inspiration from tradition, classical, returning to their roots to transform them into a new sonic world. They create a breathing ecosystem through improvisation, an interwoven surface of multiple layers. The name Mykorhiza comes from the symbiotic relationship between the fungi’s mycelium and the plants’ roots. Similarly, the group creates its musical fabric, an ecosystem where the members’ different backgrounds are brought together to create a new musical organism.

From Ancient to Contemporary :
The Music of Pipa
Fan-Qi, a dedicated soloist, specializes in the traditional pipa repertoire, passionately working to share the beauty of pipa music with a broader audience. Since relocating from Taiwan in 2021, she has embarked on a solo project titled From Ancient to Contemporary: The Music of Pipa.
This program is designed to showcase the evolution of pipa music, presenting a range of styles that span from ancient to modern times. During her concerts and workshops, Fan-Qi explores five distinct styles of pipa music: the traditional Wen style (lyrical), Wu style (martial), regional music, arrangements from folk songs (1920-1960), and contemporary compositions (1980-present). The program begins with traditional pieces and gradually progresses to contemporary works, offering the audience a guided journey through the historical development of pipa music.
Fan-Qi has collaborated with schools and churches to present these solo concerts and workshops, where she demonstrates the diverse styles of pipa music, inviting her audience to join her on a musical journey through time.
